Plucker and Palm, information at your fingertips
Windows
I've been using my Clie TJ-25 (Palm OS 5.2.1, ARM, "Hi-res" 320x320) for reading e-books and web pages with
Plucker. You can bring pages of information, even things like map directions, with either the Plucker Desktop tool or the Windows Explorer context menu tool "Convert to Plucker". I recommend the former if you want configuration ease of use.
If you want to configure the context menu tool "Convert to Plucker", make sure to modify the [CONTEXT_DEFAULT] section of your plucker.ini file:
[CONTEXT_DEFAULT]
home_stayonhost=true
bpp=16
maxwidth=300
maxheight=500
Also on your Palm, you may want to set the hardware buttons to a configuration that lets you use only your hands to navigate:
Datebook: 1/2 page up
Address: 1/2 page down
Todo: toggle full screen
Memo: Library
My TJ-25 also has a jog dial and left-right arrow keys. I set them as follows:
left: page/link back
right: page/link forward
jog up: previous link
jog down: next link
jog press: open current link
jog press and up: go to document home
jog press and down: go to global bookmarks dialog
Also if you are using Graffiti Anywhere, you must disable it when using the Plucker application. There is a subtle bug that causes the Palm device to turn off at its rest interval because it does not reset the rest counter upon the Graffiti Anywhere action button when using with Plucker. For example I set the Graffiti Anywhere action button to the Address HW button and in Plucker, I set it to the 1/2 page down function. Even though I was continually advancing the page in Plucker, because of the Graffiti Anywhere interaction the Palm device would turn off.
Ethereal and SNMP OID analysis
Unix,Windows
Ethereal (in Japan) 0.9.16 comes with a SNMP OID analyzer. There are two ways to activate your own optional MIB modules (text file):
- In the Edit Menu -> Preferences -> Protocols -> SNMP dialog, make sure that "MIB modules to load" contain the name of your optional MIB module and that the modules are seperated by a ";" (semicolon). There seems to be a bug in 0.9.16.
- You can define a Windows or Unix environment variable MIBS with the value "all".
